5 Benefits to Incorporating Stonework into Your Landscape

If you’re looking to dramatically enhance the natural beauty and functionality of your landscape, one solution is to incorporate stonework fixtures. From fire pits and retaining walls to patios and garden pathways, there are many ways to beautify your property in various shapes, textures and styles. Not only will your entertainment value go up, your property value will as well.

Let’s take a look at five main benefits to making stonework pieces a part of your Dallas yard.

Benefits:

1.      Weather Resistance

Let’s face it, stone is tough. Sure, it’s beautiful but at its core, it’s meant to last. With its ability to withstand a variety of weather conditions such as rain and intense heat, stone has an innate ability to look Mother Nature in the face and scoff. It’s less likely to move and shift with changing moisture levels, and many types even resist fading from UV rays, which is important in sunny locales like Dallas.

2.      Curb Appeal

Nothing says class like stone pathways, outdoor kitchens and water features. Even a well-placed retaining wall adds visual appeal and helps with erosion at the same time, while tidying up the space and lending an unparalleled beauty to your home, says Southern Hospitality. A curbside facelift is always money well spent, whether you’re preparing to sell your home, increase your equity value or just for your own enjoyment.

3.      Flexibility

By installing one piece of stonework, you are paving the way (literally)for other features down the line. Adding on other stone hardscape elements such as waterfalls, ponds and fountains adds a longevity and uniformity that can continue to evolve your landscape for many years to come. This gives you the option of choosing just one element now, such as a fire feature, with the ability to add on later when your budget allows, such as expanding to a complete outdoor kitchen.

4.      Eco-Friendly

Because stone is a natural product, it’s inherently earth-friendly, offering a variety of attractive attributes for those who value the environment. From an enduring lifecycle to recyclability, the use of natural stone puts control in your hands for embracing your own natural environment. This is the ultimate way to conserve resources, prevent pollution and minimize waste through eco-friendly green building, says the Natural Stone Council.

5.      Cost Effective

Depending on the type of stone you choose, many options are more affordable than you may think. But aside from initial cost, natural stone is actually quite affordable to maintain and clean. And with less long-term maintenance to worry about, as compared with, say, wooden features, you won’t have to spend a lot of your time worrying about cleaning. Occasional sweeping and washing is all that is needed.

I just got a new home, and I would love for the landscape to look really good. That is great that nothing says class like stone pathways, outdoor kitchens, and water features. I never thought about having stone pathways before. I think that would look beautiful.
